2GO has supported since its inception in 2002 the nationwide World Environment Day Essay Writing Contest (WED EWC).
It is a long-running partnership with leading clean energy producer, Hedcor, Inc., Aboitiz Group Foundation, Inc. (AGFI), and the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC).
The aim of the contest is to create among the youth a deeper awareness and greater appreciation of the benefits of clean and renewable energy.
To join, high school students are required to compose a 1,000 to 1,500-word English essay on themes related to renewable energy.
The project is led by Hedcor, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Aboitiz Equity Ventures (AEV), which operates 16 hydropower facilities in Benguet, Ilocos Sur, and Davao with a total installed capacity of 109 megawatts.
2GO, the courier services division of the Aboitiz Transport System, is the official courier partner of the WED EWC. Its 253 outlets nationwide provide interested students in the farthest areas of the country with the means to send in their contest entries for free.
The WED EWC has attracted more than 1,700 participants from over 300 secondary schools nationwide.
